HOA / Condominium

If your home is part of an HOA, chances are your by-laws prohibit you from activating your hurricane shutters at the beginning of the season and leaving them on all summer long. Most HOA allow for them to be up from the time an official hurricane-warning has been activated until 72 hours after the all-clear. Unless you want to fly down and do it yourself, you need to hire a qualified local person to put them up for you (we can provide a list of qualified companies but we do not hang shutters). Please review your HOA by-laws to make sure you remain in full compliance.

Single Family Homes

While you have the option of keeping your shutters up the entire hurricane season, it is a clear sign to thieves that your home is vacant. It is very convenient to shutter your house for 6 months but, since no one normally lives like that, it means no one is home and a squatter can rest assured they have a crash pad to live in until the Fall.

Hurricane Preparedness Plan

• Hire a qualified company to hang shutters (we can provide a list)

Before the Storm

• Reinforce (bolt) your garage door(s)
• Stow miscellaneous items, including grills, lawn ornaments, potted plants, furniture, etc.
• Turn off main circuit breakers to pools and spas
• Add pool chlorine (if provided) at the home
• Lower refrigerator/freezer temperatures to their coolest settings in anticipation of outages
• Secure interior doors
• Provide garage access to vendor for hurricane shutters
• Document and photograph interior and exterior of home for insurance purposes
• Timely Storm Monitoring and Activity Notifications/Updates (via Email, Text, Calls)
• Other services, as agreed

After the Storm

• Access your property as expeditiously as possible and report obvious storm damage
• Take emergency mitigation measures, as necessary
• Provide garage access to vendor for hurricane shutter storage
• Turn on main circuit breakers to pools and spas
• Assess losses based on power outages
• Provide contractor access for needed repairs
• Other services, as agreed
